What to do
1.
Check the average weather for your arrival month at weather.gc.ca
2.
Pack layers — BC weather changes throughout the day, especially in spring and fall
3.
Bring a waterproof jacket — this is the single most important item for Metro Vancouver
4.
Do not bring a heavy winter coat if arriving in spring or summer — buy one locally in October if needed
5.
Leave bulky items at home — bedding, kitchen items, and winter boots are cheaper to buy locally at Dollarama or Value Village
Tips
What to actually pack
Waterproof jacket, comfortable walking shoes (waterproof if possible), layers (hoodies, long sleeves), one pair of warm pants, umbrella. That covers 90% of BC weather outside of deep winter.
Buy heavy items locally
Winter boots, thick coats, bedding, towels — all of these are widely available at Value Village, Winners, and Walmart for a fraction of what you'd pay at home. Save your luggage weight for documents, electronics, and personal items.
