Description
A BC library card is a 'cheat code' for newcomers. It gives you free access to online courses, streaming services, and professional software. Surrey Libraries also have a dedicated 'Newcomer Welcome Centre' with free workshops on job search and life in Canada.

What to do
1.
Visit any Surrey Libraries branch (City Centre branch has a Newcomer Welcome Centre on Level 4)
2.
Bring your BCID or Passport + proof of address (lease or bank statement)
3.
Ask for a free library card and your PIN for digital access
4.
Log into the library website to access 'LinkedIn Learning', 'PressReader', and 'Libby' (e-books/audiobooks)
5.
Check the event calendar for 'Newcomer Orientation' workshops — new sessions are posted every month

Address Verification
- If your ID still shows your home country address, you MUST bring a utility bill or bank statement showing your Surrey address
- A digital bank statement on your phone is usually accepted

Settlement Workers at Library
Many libraries host settlement workers from S.U.C.C.E.S.S. or MOSAIC. You can book a free appointment to ask personal questions about taxes or housing.
